It's finally here, well a teaser at least of Spike Lee's beloved She's Gotta Have It series for Netflix! Lee's classic directorial feature debut has been evolved into a 21st Century series made especially for millennials like us. The 10-episode series is created, produced, and directed by Spike Lee and his wife Tonya is the show’s executive producer. ““She’s Gotta Have It” series idea was an idea from his wife; said Lee to Deadline that Tonya had the “vision” to turn into a series. “Tonya saw it plain as day,” he said. “I didn’t.” But, the Netflix series will not be an exact replica of the original film.
Lee also told Deadline that his “biggest regret” was the film’s rape scene “It made light of rape, and that’s the one thing I would take back,” he said. “I was immature and I hate that I did not view rape as the vile act that it is.” Lee promised, “There will be nothing like that in ‘She’s Gotta Have It’, the TV show.”
