There's something about listening to a new music during the colder months; it has the ability to instantly warm you up and can sonically take you to a place of coziness and elevation. Soul music, especially, digs deep into your spirit and evokes passion and good vibes for anyone chillin' in their favorite flannel pjs. Aiming to give her fans the perfect warming pick-me-up as Winter officially sets in, Kali Uchis releases her new track entitled “After the Storm” to give us all the feels.

The Colombian-American singer who was born and raised in the DMV area (between Washington D.C. and Virginia) and frequents visiting her extended family back in Columbia. She's been providing us with vintagy, soulful music since her 2014 debut with her EP Por Vida, has just released a new single off of her upcoming debut album (Fool's Paradise) that's perfectly fit for an evening of dark red wine and cashmere blankets as Uchis vibes out on repeat. "After The Storm," which features Tyler The Creator, Bootsy Collins (the iconic musician and singer from the '70's who worked with James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic) and the alternative jazz band BADBADNOTGOOD was the perfect track to showcase the mastery production only an ensemble like this could bring. Together they provide the perfect mix of funk, hip-hop soul, and jazz: the makings of a classic song.

Kali Uchis' woozy mix of saucy, drunkenly mellow (in the best possible way) soulful vocals combined with heavy instrumentation, percussion, and harmonization is exactly what we've all been craving during this cold, cold winter— in more ways than just the weather. The track keeps in line with her earlier sound, a mix of '60's and '70's psychedelic soul, funk and playful romance. Tyler The Creator puts his "flower boy" charm on it and Bootsy Collins' voice is unmistakably timeless. Uchis also appeared on Bootsy Collins' reprised and remastered World Wide Funk album posthumously release at the end of 2017, putting her mesmerizing vocals on "Worth My While."

There is a sensual maturity in her current sound combined with a lyrical prowess that's refreshing. After The Storm is a uniquely uplifting song with hidden sonic treasures that will be perfect to vibe to in vinyl form (we hope that comes)!  If this track has any inkling of what Uchis debut album will sound like, it's definitely one to anticipate. Take a listen to the new song below and prepare to be elevated.
