It’s been one full year since Beyoncé embarked us all on her musical journey for her most poignant and radical album to date in Lemonade. She decided to celebrate the one-year milestone since its debut by announcing a touching scholarship initiative entitled “Formation Scholars award”. Announced via her website this morning the scholarship’s main focus is meant to “encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident.”
There will only be four scholarships given to students enrolled in the 2017 – 2018 academic year, who attend the following selected colleges and/or universities, Berklee College of Music, Parsons School of Design. Beyoncé also selected 2 significant HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) to participate in the scholarship awards, Howard University and Spelman College which is a beautiful strategy in continuing to uplift young women of color towards collegiate success while beginning to focus more on the overall growth HBCUs immensely needed via student body wise, financially and structurally. Every little step counts.
As of now, there hasn’t been a word on how much each selected recipient would receive for their scholarships however, just thinking about most college students loan debts, any and all money can help in staying afloat and surviving college. Nothing cooler than celebrating the one-year mark of an album that defined Black Women for a generation, then christening this feat with blessing the next generation of women to be even better.
