Oh, hello Spring! I’ve been waiting for you with bated breath, apprehension, and hopefulness, too. What’s a better word than Resumption to theme for March/April on Fraîche? It’s quite meaningful to our times moving into a new spring season and a perfect inaugural bi-monthly theme for Fraîche. Resumption means “the action of beginning something again after a pause or interruption” and this word for us goes two-fold. Between restarting life again after two plus years of pandemic life and our reentrance into the world of publishing in a recharged capacity.
So, here we are getting back into the land of the living — and even though the feeling resembles that scene from the 1970’s classic film ‘The Wiz’, where all the munchkins shed their downtrodden skin from Evillene’s wicked power trance, it’s also a time of bold and expansive thought for elevation and the joy of being more… dare I say social? Believe you, I am just as seemingly anxious yet the bottom line, is it’s now or another year? The time is now because even though many of us, me included remain in a super precautious mode when moving about our outdoor public lives and maintaining a code of face-to-face conduct (if you dare and if you care), because everyone has an opinion. Whatever yours is, what can be said, it’s important to move forward and understand that this pandemic or endemic will remain around for some time.
Thus, getting back to normalcy is inevitable for most of us, and having an optimistic outlook on what can be done as individuals to move towards a newer normal, with confidence and perhaps a long view for the near future can be achieved. The act of resumption in my life will be focused upon personal accountability when dealing with professional goals. When the pandemic originally began in March of 2020 all that clouded my mind was fear of the unknown and when it would end. Sure, I had a handful of personal and professional goals I wanted to achieve during the year, except everything literally paused.
Who knew we’d be at a standstill for almost two years? Although, the silver lining in having to pause those goals I wanted to obtain is they are still relevant and can be pursued now. Perhaps some in more inventive and strategic ways. Nevertheless, the worries of having to have every professional interaction happen on Zoom forever has dwindled and I am looking forward to being creative with others in public again.
