Although, we’ve just bid 2022 adieu one can always look forward to the month of January as not only the fresh start of a new year, but it can also be a time of mindful intimacy to become recluse, reflect and renew. Much like the changing of the calendar we must find transformation, too. With that in mind, new music during this first month of the year is bound to make an indented mark and speak to the theme of the year's beginning. Especially, if it’s a song that emotes so much emotion like the one from one of our dear Fraîche women, Jennah Bell. Who’s often sophisticated and verdant vocals are just what the New Year deserves as an introduction.
The shiny and burgeoning singer/songwriter is back with a seductive and transformative cover of Tina Turner’s 1984 hit “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” Along with the help of her previous collaborating friends, Stories. Whenever she gets together with them it’s truly organic sonic magic. Bell’s voice reverberates in this simmering rustic/acoustic version. Allowing the words to bleed into each other while movingly permeating the deepness of the lyrics with passion and depth. The stripped down and delicate cover provides a keen meshing with the raw essence of the original song.
Bell smolders over a sonically naked undertone which, dances with vulnerability while keeping to its lyrical strength. Leaving the rendition separate but very much equal in its emotional performance. Like the month of January, the song speaks in subtle tones that grow in strength and overall vibration. Here’s hoping the year’s arrival does just the same.
