It’s funny how nostalgia can hit harder during the holiday season. Whether it’s catching a vintage Rankin/Bass Christmas animation show or Home Alone (1 or 2) on TV, perhaps it’s the aroma of a comforting dish cooking in a Dutch oven on a crisp late-autumn night or hearing Donny Hathaway’s "This Christmas" on the radio, or being able to finally wear one of your favorite cashmere sweaters or that vintage fur coat (like fashion icon and fashion luminarie Grace Jones wearing a decadent white fur coat and hat in 1984) to meet friends for a evening cocktail and dinner.

It’s that one something which hits me and I never really can pinpoint it but, I know it’s one of the most lovely and maybe even jarring feelings to have. The older we get I believe we become more reminiscent and reflective on ourselves and where life has taken us. Having had that very conversation with one of my closets friends just a while ago over hot soup and warm wine, where we both got teary-eyed thinking about our parents and the inevitable mortality we all have.

Our eyes although watery, we sucked it up and laughed at our tearful reflections- the holidays and the winter season can stir up a whirlwind of emotions for us all. Take it easy on yourself this winter. I sure am and I hope you do, too.

Sincerely,

Aja Patrice
