Our Throwback Vibe of the Week goes to the funky band Lion Babe in Jump Hi. The duo featuring Jillian Hervey (Vanessa Williams beautiful, eldest offspring) along with the eclectic beat producer (Lucas Goodman aka Astro Raw) the Lion to her Babe has had us grooving since their 2014 Baduesqe single Treat Me Like Fire. Subsequently, the funky fun duo have collaborated with the likes of Childish Gambino and producer extraordinaire Pharrell Williams, for their debut album entitled Begin that dropped in 2016. Since then, we’ve gotten some cool new tracks in between our wait for their sophomore album to come like Rockets featuring Moe Moks and Get Body; both dropped earlier this year.
Jump Hi reveals Hervey's voice in a smooth yet powerful tone reminiscent of the younger sister of Erykah Badu, with the funkier, woozy good vibe the iconic Chaka Khan; while, she belts out sounds of the sun, sugar and high energetic happiness. It’s a real groove and the perfect vibe for the beginning of September as we step into Pre-Fall and everything that comes with it. To top it off we get a slick never fade-able 16 bars from Childish Gambino, which solidified its banger status. Check out the throwback track now, reminisce and groove.
