Sun’s Reminder
On the first day of spring
I decided to leave you
Cause oh finally
The sun came back
Back with open arms
Kissing my neck
Whispering in my ear
Reminding me of who I am
Of who I once was
And how I’ll never be that again
How there’s so much more to life
More to learn
To love
To know
And to be
I was by myself
and my heart was full
cause the sun was back
and I was warm
A warmth I tried to find through you
All winter long
So when the sun came back
I finally left you
Cause it was me I needed
Me and the Sun of course
This poem was dedicated to a time when I was in my first queer relationship. I was seeking so much validation from that person that I never got, to the point where I forgot myself. When I finally held myself in stillness and went within, I realized that was what I needed the whole time. Wintertime comes with a lot of necessary hard truths. Spring is the reminder that newness and change are inevitable.
