The premiere of Grown-ish (spin off of Emmy award winning primetime series Black-ish) that stars 17 year-old actress/activist Yara Shahidi, went off without a hitch last night. It’s a perfect mix the college version of Black-ish and the ‘90’s collegiate classic A Different World; while managing to encompass its own brand of millennial preponderance. Shahidi’s starring role as Zoey Johnson is a cluster of emotions, late teen angst, beauty and style that will be seen more in-depth as the series progresses for sure. Though, last night’s premiere two episodes provided the audience a wide range of what to possibly expect in the upcoming episodes─ it’s sure to deliver the unexpected as well. The bold and unexpected should also be assumed about Yara Shahidi’s personal style in real life. It’s bold, youthful and refreshingly similar to the spirited character she plays.

Yesterday morning she rebelled in a bright, vibrant and cozy red shearling coat and rocked a color blocked two piece pant and top, which bordered between vintage detailing and saturated denim blue. All of which provided a subtle base to make her cherry colored coat pop and become a serious statement piece. She offset the vibrant fit with a muted mauve velvet pump that added lengthening and street chic appeal.

In the dead of a New York winter, where the temperatures are dropping to -2°degrees Shahidi makes withstanding the bitter, brick weather look effortless; while leaving her interview on The View. All the more reason why she’ll be one to seriously style watch throughout this year; on and off the TV screen.
